With more than four decades of experience in financial services, Fred Van Patten focuses his practice on providing education and product knowledge to help his clients make better informed decisions.  In this capacity, he helps people prepare for one of the most important financial objectives of their lives.

A native of South Carolina, Fred graduated from the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC, with a BS in Business Administration, and then earned a law degree from the Woodrow Wilson College of Law in Atlanta, Georgia.  He began his career with Equitable Life Assurance Society—now Equitable Advisors--in 1983.  In 1999, he further honed his knowledge by completing the Financial Planner Program at Oglethorpe University. He received his Certificate in Retirement Planning from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2006.   In 2023, he completed the Columbia University Holistic Financial Coach program, and took the FI360 training to qualify as a 3(21) investment fiduciary through RPCS.

Fred is a life and qualifying member of the life insurance industry’s Million Dollar Round Table.  He is a member of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NABIP), National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and National Association of Plan Advisors. He has been a member of Equitable Advisors’ Hall of Fame since 1994.

Outside of work, Fred has served his community as a Board Member and a Founding Member of the Johns Creek, GA Chamber of Commerce.  He is a member of the Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce and the Association of General Contractors.  Fred volunteers for FurKids, a non-profit no-kill animal shelter, as a 2025 HONORS ambassador, and is a member of the “Green Man” Big Green Egg competition cooking team. He has been married for 40 years to his wife, Nancy. They have two adult children and one grandchild.

In a collaboration between the Wharton School and Equitable Advisors' affiliated life insurance carrier, coursework for the certificate was developed exclusively for Equitable Advisors FPs, and the title may be used only by FPs who have completed the required coursework and maintain the title through ongoing continuing education requirements.
